Veterinary Nursing Skills (9th Nov 2019, Brisbane)

TYPE: Practical Workshop

LEVEL: Junior to Intermediate Nurses

This workshop will suit you if you are new to the veterinary industry, studying veterinary nursing, or have been in practice less than 2 years.
More experienced nurses are welcome to attend and often use these workshops to update their skills or learn new ones. Many mentors choose to attend so they can better facilitate skill training in their own clinics.

Our Veterinary Nursing Skills workshops are a full day packed with skills stations for you to choose what you want to learn. Each workshop has different skills out morning and afternoon, covering a huge range of skills from the foundation level like learning signalment, skin preparation and instrument care to more advanced nursing like intravenous catheter placement, jugular venepuncture and clinical pathology tasks. Our skill stations rotate around at different workshops, so if you’ve been before, there will be new skills to learn on another day. We’re happy for you to pop in requests for particular skills at least 28 days prior.

These workshops are all about you – there is no lecture component. The Clinical Skills Tutors will be available for demonstrations and to ask questions and assist you with learning tasks. As a student-centered workshop, you choose the skills you want to learn. Each skill station has instructional videos you can watch on your device, written instructions, and all the equipment necessary to practice – you don’t need to wait around for a Tutor (but they are there for you to ask for help from). We only ask you take care of the equipment, help each other, ask for Tutor help when you need it, and share skills station access around so everyone gets a go.
