FAQ

Do I have to do the Intermediate course first?
No, you do not need to do the intermediate course first. Both courses are written to be stand alone, but they can be packaged for a special discount if you are looking to cement and expand your knowledge across all the areas of anaesthesia covered.

What is the format of the Advanced Anaesthesia Course?
The course blends self-paced reading and recorded lectures with online MCQ-style assessments and short written tasks that help develop practical documents for clinical use. Integral to the course are interactive sessions conducted via Zoom, where what you have learned is applied to clinical scenarios.

How does this course differ from other ACVN short courses?
This course delves deeper, exploring more concepts and literature than our standard short courses. It includes interactive sessions and provides access to educators throughout the course enrolment period.

What materials and resources are included in the course?
Participants receive a printed learner’s guide containing readings, notes, and instructions, along with online access to additional readings, useful resources, recorded lectures, and videos.

Is there a certificate awarded upon completion of the course?
Yes, all participants who complete the course and its activities receive a Certificate of Achievement and earn 10 AVNAT points.

How much time should participants expect to dedicate to this course weekly?
Participants should allocate approximately 10 hours per week during the course. An additional six weeks at the end of the course is provided to complete any outstanding tasks.

Are there any prerequisites required to enrol in this course?
No specific prerequisites are required, but the course assumes a knowledge level equivalent to that of a qualified nurse with several years of experience.

What support is available to participants during the course?
Support is available via phone, email, and Zoom appointments with the Lead Educator.

How are assessments conducted throughout the course?
Assessments primarily include MCQ or drag-and-drop tasks that are auto-marked, with unlimited attempts allowed. The course also includes written assessments that help design practical documents, like protocols, for use in clinics. Detailed feedback is provided on written assessments to assist in refinement.

Is there interactive content, and if so, what does it involve?
Yes, the course includes two interactive online Zoom sessions focused on applying learned concepts to clinical scenarios and simulations.

What are the technical requirements to participate in the online components of the course?
Participants need reliable internet access (such as NBN) and a computer. While mobile devices are supported, using a computer is recommended for easier access to reading and viewing online resources.

Are the Zoom sessions compulsory?
No, attending the Zoom sessions is not compulsory, but they are a crucial part of the course. These sessions are designed to help you better assimilate new knowledge into clinical practice. While recordings of the sessions will be provided, attending live is highly recommended. The interactive nature of these sessions means that merely watching a recording will not be as beneficial as participating in real time.
