Embark on a journey to master reptile care with our specialised short course, designed for veterinary nurses seeking to expand their expertise in herpetology. This course offers an exploration of reptile species, including common lizards, non-venomous snakes, tortoises, and turtles. You’ll gain a thorough understanding of their unique anatomy, housing and habitat requirements, as well as insights into environmental enrichment and natural behaviours.
Learn about the essentials of reptile healthcare, nutrition, and the specifics of managing their environment in a clinical setting. The course dives deep into crucial clinical practices such as physical examinations, conducting effective reptile consults and admissions, and tailoring nursing interventions.
You’ll cover topics include fluid therapy, diagnostic imaging, and clinical pathology, equipping you with the tools to assist the vet to diagnose and treat common clinical presentations. Discover the intricacies of anaesthesia, analgesia, and procedures specific to reptiles. Additionally, the course covers rehabilitation and release, essential for those involved in wildlife care or rescue.
Please note: Students undertaking this short course should have at least a Certificate IV level of knowledge under their belt. Not qualified? That’s ok, you can still enrol, just be aware that the content is written presuming you have the same skill and knowledge of a qualified veterinary nurse.
The Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council has allocated 5 AVNAT CPD points to this continuing education activity.
